The Bible, the Word of God

The Bible. Stand strong in the Word of God!

I remember carrying the cross through Spain in 1972. One morning I came to a school. The teachers had let the students out of class to see the man with the cross. The crowd gathered in front of the school and I spoke to them about my cross walk and the message of the cross. I finished as I led them in prayer to receive Jesus. Hundreds were saved, glory! I told them goodbye and that I would see them in Heaven. Many were crying and so was I.

I waved to them as I left. A little while later I came to a road junction and after that another junction and I felt sure of making the right decisions about which road was the correct way. In the early afternoon I was shocked to realize that I was back at the school that I had left that morning! I had done a good walk but I had made a mistake…

I had walked in a big circle!!!

That is what many people are doing in life…going around in big circles. I did not have a good map.

This is what the Bible is. It shows us where we are and how to walk the right road. It shows us where we are going. Without the Word of God we are lost! As we hear and understand the message of the Bible we discover Jesus!

Jesus is calling out to us, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’

The scripture points us to Jesus and puts us on the way to real life. The scripture also is the place of real truth. It shows us the way of true life. The Bible is the compass showing us not only what is wrong but what is right. We have a solid rock that stands against the storms of life. We learn that we can walk in the way of Jesus as we live in the power of the Holy Spirit. We come to understand what is means to be in the family of God and in the Kingdom of God. We can be at peace and rest as we trust God. We even discover when we are making the wrong decisions and it brings us to repentance of our sins and we learn how to live in the fruits of the spirit.

Pray and ask Jesus to lead you to understand the scriptures in the following verses in the Bible. Jesus will show you the truth.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

*The Bible exposes what is in our heart. It shows our needs and points us to Jesus for forgiveness and salvation. Shows us how to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

“Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11

“I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart.”

Psalm 40:8

*We need the Word of God in our hearts. Not just a Bible on a book shelf.

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”

Psalm 1:2-3

*Jesus said that if we love Him we will keep His commandants. We learn that by loving God we love to do the will of Jesus. We delight in Him.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:1-2, 14.

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

*We come to know Jesus and follow Him. It’s all about Jesus!

“Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” John 20:30-31

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;” 2 Timothy 3:16

*The Bible points us to Jesus and in the Bible we have the truth of the way to live and follow Jesus.

“These things I have written to you who believe in the Name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:13

*When we are saved then we can rest with peace in our hearts because we no know that we are saved and have eternal life.

“But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” Matthew 4:4

“Amen, amen I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.”

“Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” John 6: 47;68.

*”Yes, Yes, we can rest assured that we have eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?

As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10: 13-15;17.

*This is a great scripture that shows how important it is to share Jesus with others that they may know how to be saved. Every person that comes to know Jesus also now needs to witness to others. Jesus will use you to share Him with love and the power of the Holy Spirit.

“Looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter (finisher) of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the Cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the Throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2.

*Jesus is the who creates faith in your heart as a gift from God. He not only creates faith but He is the one who perfects and finishes our faith. You can rest in God knowing that what Jesus has created in you He will finish. We give all glory and praise to God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Praise the Lord.

Oh, I love the Word of God. What joy and blessings it brings to a person. I thrill with the beautiful truths as it flows from the Throne of God. Let the thirsty come and drink. Fill your heart with God’s Word.

As I carried the cross around the world I carried a small pocket Bible. Many times a day I stop and sat down to rest my body and refresh my heart with God’s Word. I also carried a larger Bible with the Old and New Testament that I would read a night.

Another thing that I do is pray and ask the Lord what He would have me study. He will give me one verse or one chapter to think on for that week or month. So I was in constant Bible study as I walked around the world. Much of the walk was before the days of the internet. I love and cherish each word of the Bible.

I am constantly getting from God and the Bible

as I give out Jesus and the message of the cross.

I receive the Word into my heart!

I give out the Word as I witness and share with others!

Another thing that I do is at night before I turn off the light

I open my Bible to the Gospels and read from the red letters

that are the Words of Jesus in the New Testament. I put my finger

on an area of a page and read the scripture that is nearest to my finger.

I read that scripture and ask Jesus to show me what the meaning is of this. Then I turn off the light. I go to sleep with that scripture of Jesus speaking filling my heart. I have joy and peace as I worship in the Presence of the Lord. So from the time I get up throughout the day and at night I am in the Bible. I am receiving and living in the Holy Scriptures and in the Glory of the Lord. The Lord not only teaches me but corrects me in His tender love.

I pray that you will study the Holy Bible and let God fill you with His love and blessings. May the joy of the Lord be your strength. Start with just one simple short way of study and let it grow through all the days of your life. Jesus bless you. Let God reveal Himself to you, that you may be a wonderful follower of Jesus. No matter what is going on around you. You can live in the Glory of the Lord. Jesus said, I will be with you always!!! Amen.
