Jesus (Only)

When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
Matthew 17:1-8

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;
and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”

In this column I want us to focus on Jesus and ‘Jesus Only’.

In the day when Jesus was walking this earth two thousand years ago the people were following the Law and the Prophets (the Old Testament).

With Jesus we find the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets as He was the Messiah and now Savior and Lord.

In the story above we see the select followers of Jesus Peter, James and John going with Jesus up the mountain. There Jesus was transfigured before them. Then Moses (the law) and Elijah (the prophets) appeared with Jesus as they talked with Him.

Peter wanted to build three memorials or tabernacles to the ‘three’; Jesus, Moses and Elijah.

Then God intervened with a cloud of Glory and His Voice:

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”

God was setting things straight. Jesus is different from Moses and Elijah! Moses represented the Law. He was the great lawgiver. Elijah was the prophet and represented the prophets.

Jesus fulfilled the Law and the Prophets. Jesus is the Son of God. Divine and Holy and without sin. Fully God and in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead Body.

The Law and the Prophets do not save. Jesus Saves!

The Father was saying don’t make Jesus equal with Moses or Elijah or any prophet or ‘holy man’. ‘Hear Jesus’ Follow Jesus! Not religion, not Christianity, now morality, not legalism, not revelations, not prophesies but Jesus.

Then Jesus touched the three followers and when they looked up they saw:

Jesus only!

I tell you this is what we need to see in our day also Jesus only !

We need to see Jesus.

Not religious law or revelations or man made legalism but Jesus the Son of God the Savior who shed His Blood on Calvary’s Cross for our sins.

We need to see Jesus! The Anointed One!

The law was good, the prophets were good but now we have Jesus! We are saved through Jesus.

Come to know Him and trust Jesus and follow Jesus.

Oh may we ‘See Jesus Only’!

Be a true Follower of Jesus.

God bless you,
