Knowing the Will of God (And doing it) Part 5 “How Jesus speaks to me’ Arthur Blessitt

Should you have not read the previous columns on this subject I encourage you to please do so. I will continue in this column to share how Jesus speaks to me. These are a sampling of different ways that God has shown me clearly His Will in my life.

The word of knowledge or confirmation:
I had just returned from being gone on a long overseas crosswalk. I was very tired. It was the fall of 1985 and I was living in Los Angeles, California. Paul and Jan Crouch of TBN TV had called and invited me down to the Anaheim Convention Center where Rev. Kenneth Copeland was holding a convention. They were broadcasting the meeting live on TBN. I briefly met Rev. Copeland just before the broadcast. It was just a greeting and I did not even speak about my cross walks. Paul, Jan and I were sitting in the audience off to one side. As Kenneth Copeland was speaking he paused and seemed to be having a conversation with God. Then he said something like “Arthur Blessitt, you have been struggling with leaving on a cross walk in South Africa. I know you are tired but this is the will of God for you to go.’

I had been feeling that the time to go to South Africa was now but my mind kept saying I needed rest. The country was torn in war and racial conflict. When he spoke those words I said ‘Yes’. And the peace and glory of God filled me.
Then Kenneth Copeland did something astounding. He said that the offering that would be taken that night would all go to me to pay for all the cost of the South African trip!
The amount of money given was about $65,000. He gave every dime to my ministry for that trip. I have never spoken to him since except for a brief moment after the meeting to express my thanks. He did not use me in any way he simply obeyed the word of God and said it and then gave the money to bring it to pass.

Just Go:
Denise and I were down to the last three sovereign nations of having carried the cross in every nation. Iraq was one of those last two along with Saudi Arabia and North Korea. We had tried to get visas for eight years. I was seeking every way possible and praying. One evening after I came in from the office Denise said to me “Arthur let’s just Go’! When she said that I felt peace and knew it was God speaking through her. I immediately said Yes! We left with no visas or permission and carried the cross in Saudi and Iraq and in Iraq we even got to carry the cross in Babylon and Ur where Abraham was from.
Just a thought for you to ponder! Were Abraham alive today he would be called an Iraqi!
The old city of Ur of the Chaldeans is in Iraq and that is were he was born and raised and where God spoke to him.

How I get directions:
We made a decision to just go to Saudi Arabia with no visa and I was praying about how to get across the border. God said “Go to Dubai then drive to Abu Dhabi and keep going, then turn left then right and that is the way in’. And it was!
Even now, so often I lay on the floor praying over maps and with a calendar. I look and move my hand over the places and then I feel the Lord say “Go there!’ then I pray over dates and at the correct date I can feel it.
Not every thing is always so clear nor does God always reveal His will in the same way all the time.

The foundation of our lives begins in the morning when Denise and I awake. Most morning we pray together the following prayers out loud together.

The Jesus Prayer:
“ Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on me a sinner’
“ Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on me a sinner’
“ Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on me a sinner’

Yes Prayer:
“Yes Lord Yes to Your will and to Your way, Yes, Lord Yes we will trust you and obey. When Your Spirit speaks to me with my whole heart I’ll agree and my answer will be Yes Lord Yes.’

Then the Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father which art in Heaven,
Hollowed be Thy Name
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day or daily bread
And forgive us our debts and we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory
Forever,
Amen

Holy Holy Holy Prayer:
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty
The Lord of Hosts is Your Name.’
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty
The Lord of Hosts is Your Name.’
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty
The Lord of Hosts is Your Name.’

We then pray our own prayers but our prayers are for the Lord Jesus to bind every work of Satan toward us this day and for the Holy Spirit to have full control of every thought and action. We welcome Jesus to lead us in anyway He wants and that nothing comes before us that is not His Will.

Then through the day as I must make many decisions about things I feel free that the thought I have are from God unless there is something very evident that this is not from God.
I often ask for Jesus to take out of me anything that does not look like Him and put in me everything that does look like Him.
At any time I feel a lack of peace or a check in my spirit I stop and consider things. Sometimes I consider something and in my spirit it seems like my spirit is leaping and I know it is the right thing.

For me the walk with Jesus is moment by moment.
When things come to mind that do not look like the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’ I repent and ask Jesus to cleanse my mind and refresh my thoughts.

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control’¦
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.’ (Galatians 5:22-23 in the Holy Bible)

Lay down, face down and pray:
It was 1981 at the airport in Warsaw, Poland that God moved in a major new way in revealing His will to me. This was my first cross walk in a communist country and faced many difficult battles ahead. Having got through immigration and customs with the big cross (a miracle) I had no plans. My total focus was getting “In’. Now what. Crowds of people where waiting just outside the customs and as I walked into that crowd Jesus spoke to me so clearly:
“Lay down with your face down, with you nose and lips touching the ground. You become nothing and I will be everything! I will tell you what to do!’
I was in shock. Why, I am in public. The floor is dirty with hundreds of people walking around. What will people think of me? Will the police arrest me? My mind was racing as I stood there holding my cross and backpack. Then I did what Jesus said and put the cross bag down and my back pack and lay flat out on the ground with crowds of people looking at me. I was crying and Jesus spoke. “God to the hotel and start in front of the Cathedral on Monday morning.’ I did and my life has never been the same. The story of the Poland walk is also on the Journal link above.

It is simply astounding what Jesus says and does when I lay down.
I noticed the other night that there is a area just beside my bed that is pressed down, worn and discolored in the carpet because every night and every morning I lay in that spot with my face on the floor speaking with Jesus.

He told me to always lay down and pray before I speak. Praying laying in the pastor’s study is not enough. It must be in the open sometime after the meeting has started. I guess to make me know I am nothing but He is everything! Glory!

I pray this way when I start every walk. Oh, sometimes it is in a dirty place where animals are walking about and filth but Jesus still has me lay down and pray, nose and lips to the ground. I often am sweating and when I get up my clothes are like mud and my face is dirty and I have to wipe my lips. I don’t know what all this means but I know what Jesus asks me to do and I just do it. Often He speaks to me there on the ground and gives me orders for the day of the mission.
Oh, I love my Lord and my God!

The train in Greece:
My son Joshua and two friends David and Jonathon Coe were carrying the cross with me in Greece. When it came night we asked an old man for permission to sleep in his back yard. It was a Sunday and all the stores were closed. We played a game with the winner getting to eat the only food we had, one small bag of peanuts. Joshua won and got to eat the peanuts. We laid out our sleeping bags and went to sleep beside some bushes. Late in the night as we all slept the ground begin to shake and there was a huge roar. We all sat up thinking either it was the Lord coming or an earthquake. Then came an ear splitting sound; the horn of a train! We were sleeping beside a railroad track. Just behind the bushes was the track. The next morning we asked the old man if the sound of the train woke him at night. He said no. Then I came to understand a tremendous spiritual point. That man’s house shook, his sleeping ears heard the same sounds we did but he had grown accustomed to the sounds. That is what happens to many people. Jesus does speak, the Holy Spirit does speak to the tender heart but for many in time we grow hardened to the Voice of the Lord. Like when you work with tender hands you will have blisters. But in a few days your hands have calluses and you can do the same work with no blisters.

So with the Spirit of God, do not harden your heart.
“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:7 in the Holy Bible)

No walls:
I had carried the cross in West Germany in 1981 and then drove on the highway through East Germany to West Berlin where there I carried the cross and spoke at a big Jesus 81 Rally at Olympic Stadium. I carried the cross to the top of the stadium and lifted the cross upright above the city looking out over the communist world stretching from East Germany thousands of miles across Russia and China and Vietnam. Almost half the world was under communism. I prayed with the cross-lifted up.

After preaching more in West Berlin I then drove back that highway through East Germany. The highway was fenced off and one was not to stop or leave that restricted highway. Near the West German border my car broke down. Gina my daughter was with me. We got it off the road to the side. The car was pulling a trailer that we stayed in at night. I lay on the floor praying in the middle of the night. We had broken down in East Germany and could not get out. After hours of prayer Jesus spoke to me at long last.

“Arthur, you have wanted to carry the cross behind the ‘Iron Curtain’ well you are behind the Iron Curtain and you can’t get out!’ You are Here! There are No Walls! There is no ‘Iron Curtain’ The Walls are in “YOUR Mind!
I could see it clearly and even felt embarrassed at my blinded ignorance.

It was Winston Churchill, once prime minister of Britain that first used the word Iron Curtain on a visit to America in 1946 in a speech. Then the world picked up the term and even the churches and seminaries and Bible schools, all teaching Go into All the World (but of course you can’t evangelize in the communist countries, etc. The same is still being taught about where you cannot evangelize! I can tell you there are No Walls. I have carried a 12-foot cross “IN’ Every sovereign Nation on Earth!
Today many in Church Religion talk about a non-Biblical term called the “Ten-Forty Window” where you cannot witness! What a shame that the church and religious groups are still building walls. Still teaching Fear and not Faith. To know the will of God you must be Free to not only hear His call but Do His Call. To go where Jesus leads you, Wherever!

Better stop before I start preaching.

Pray for others, I’ll take care of you:
One night I was praying about our financial needs and other things that we needed. It was a shocking moment for me as Jesus spoke. “You pray for others, I’ll take care of you. I want you to do a 40 day fast of prayer and you cannot ask one thing for yourself. Eat breakfast and lunch but fast from 3pm on and pray during the time you would normally eat. I want you to only pray for others for 40 Days.’ I did this prayer fast and it really changed my prayer focus. Praying for others and not for me for 40 days was truly a radical idea for me. Of course we are to pray for our needs and pray about all things but this broke my pattern of self-centered praying and self-focus. Now my praying is more balanced.

Next we will look into the Word of God and see from the Bible how He spoke to the people in that day. This will be thrilling and very fruitful. I have about two or three more columns on this subject. God bless you! Now ‘Do’ the Will of God.
