This is a thrilling column yet heart-breaking. So let’s look and consider Jesus and the references to His Head. I will give a scripture and them make a humble comment.
Luke 2:12
“And this will be the sign to you:
You will find a Babe (Jesus) wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
Oh how awesome it must have been for Mary and Joseph and the shepherds to see the Face of the Holy Child Jesus! He was pure and holy and His skin soft and without blemish. Cherish the moment for His Head will not stay that way for long.
Matthew 8:20
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests,
but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head .’
Luke 9:58
And Jesus said to him,
“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests,
but
the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.’
I know it is popular for us to want to have a home and financial security but take a look at Jesus. Hear His own words the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head. So often preachers will not make a change of churches with a smaller salary than they now have. I have heard over and over again men and women that know they are called to a mission for Jesus but will not go because of the insecurity. Often I hear young people say they are called to go’¦but they never leave because they do not know where they will stay or how they will be able to afford the journey. I too have had to face this over and over again in my life in carrying the cross around the world. But these words of Jesus have brought comfort and inspiration for me to go on no matter what.
Matthew 26:6-7
And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper,
a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil,
and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table.
Mark 14:3
And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table,
a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard.
Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head .
What wonder and what a wonderful moment as this unnamed woman burst into the house where Jesus was and poured costly fragrant oil upon His Head. Although a sinner she did not let tradition or religion keep her from Jesus. She came into a room of men and touched the Savior with love and fragrance. Oh, dear sinner friend you must rush past the crowd of critics, mockers and doubters and come to Jesus giving Him all your love and crying out for mercy. You will then find a Friend in Jesus and your Savior and Lord.
Matthew 27:27-31
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him.
And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.
When they had twisted a crown of thorns,
they put it on His head ,
and a reed in His right hand.
And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.
And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him,
and led Him away to be crucified.
Matthew 27:37
And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him:
THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Mark 15:17-20
And they clothed Him with purple;
and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head ,
and began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him.
And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.
John 19:2-3
And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head and they put on Him a purple robe.
Then they said, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
And they struck Him with their hands.
John 19:30
So when Jesus had received the sour wine,
He said, “It is finished!”
And bowing His head,
He gave up His spirit.
Here we are confronted with the view of Jesus being beaten on the head and spat upon and then the crown of thorns pressed into the skin of His Head. The blood was pouring down His Face and the view must have been that of revulsion. Yet Jesus endured this all for you and I.
But Praise God the story does not end here.
John 20:6-7
Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there,
and the handkerchief that had been around His (Jesus) head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.
Glory! After three days Jesus arose and Peter found the stone moved away and the grave clothes lying but no Body of Jesus. No, Jesus was alive and had risen! Jesus lives forever more! Jesus in the Glory ascended up into heaven.
Call upon Jesus and He will save you. Followers of Jesus let us go forth to all the world with the message of hope and salvation in Jesus.
