Jesus (Teaching and Preaching)

And Jesus went about all Galilee, Teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom,
(Matthew 4:23 in the Holy Bible)

To me, I thrill to the Words of Jesus! Oh, I love to hear what Jesus taught and preached. In the Gospels we have a record of many of the teachings and preaching of Jesus but of course this is only a small amount. God chose to reveal to us only these select few as recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

These messages and teachings have been revealed to us. It is our mission to study them and apply them to our lives today. Although the messages were for people two thousand years ago they apply to us too.

Jesus came and fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies. Jesus is the Christ; Jesus is the Lord, the Messiah, the Son of God, and the Savior of the World. Jesus is God as the Holy Spirit is God and as the Father is God.

This column is to challenge you to read and ‘hear’ the Words of Jesus.

There are many voices in the world today competing for your attention and devotion. The ways are so many that are offered to us to follow. The pressures of religion and society are for compromise and conformity.

To follow Jesus and His teaching and preaching is to live in a way that is radically different from that offered by anyone else in world history.

Jesus brings us to confront ‘Truth’. Jesus calls us to ‘follow Him’. Jesus calls for the denial of self and total commitment to the will of the Father. Jesus offers a cross for every person!

When you truly hear and receive the Words of Jesus you are changed and your way of life is different from that moment on.

I invite you to get your Bible and read the Word of Jesus. Even if you are a pastor or Bible teacher or missionary or anyone…just take a few hours and slowly read the Words Jesus said in the Bible. In many Bibles the Words of Jesus are written in Red. So, should you start in Matthew it is easy to move through the Gospels reading the Red words.

What you will get is Jesus speaking to you as He speaks two thousand years ago! To do this is something special. What you will get is unique, personal and transforming.

For the skeptic and searcher go ahead and read the Words of Jesus. See and hear what Jesus says and teaches.

For the lover and follower of Jesus you will be challenged afresh.

Open your mind and step outside any preconceived ideas and look at Jesus and Hear Him.

After this focus on just the Words of Jesus then go back and read the full gospels and see what the story is and the context.

I just want to challenge you to look and read and hear and let Jesus speak to you in His own words ‘today’.

Should you do this then this may well be my best columns ever!

God bless you as you read the Words of Jesus! Oh, don’t forget there are the Words of Jesus in the Book of Acts, 1 st and 2nd Corinthians, 1 st Timothy, and Revelation!
