Jesus (His Face)

Oh how I love Jesus! In this column we focus on His Face. What I will do is give a scripture from the Holy Bible and then make a comment. The most important thing is what the Bible says about Jesus and not my comments.

Matthew 17:1-2
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;
and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun , and His clothes became as white as the light.

Luke 9:29-30
And as He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered ,and His robe became white and glistening.
And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,

What a moment as the Glory that Jesus had before His coming to earth broke forth and was witnessed by these three disciples. “ His face shone like the sun ‘. Jesus went back to the Glory of Heaven after He ascended. That Glory will Be His forever. On earth it was only for a brief moment on the mountain.

Luke 9:51
Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, Jesus knew that the cross was before Him in Jerusalem but He pressed on His journey to Jerusalem . That is love! The cross did not come as a surprise to Jesus. He knew His destiny and walked on. He knew that there was no other way for our redemption except by His suffering and the shedding of His Blood on the cross. So Jesus went on.

Matthew 26:39
He went a little farther and fell on His face , and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.’

Luke 22:44
And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then
His sweat became like great drops of blood
falling down to the ground.

His face shone like the sun is now gone and we see Jesus His sweat became like great drops of blood falling from His Face as Jesus fell on His Face! This moment is so tragic and Holy that it almost defies comment. Jesus was here committing Himself to the cross and dying for our sins. What love! What commitment to the Father’s Will.

Matthew 26:67
Then they spat in His face and beat Him;
and others struck Him with the palms of their hands,

Luke 22:64
And having blindfolded Him,
they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying,
“Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?’

Now see the Face of Jesus that had blood vessels bursting with Blood as a result from His prayer in the Garden to now being covered with spit from the mouths of vile profane sinners. Then look again’¦now they are slapping His Face and hitting Him in the face! His Face in now covered with broken blood vessels, black and blue and swollen from the blows. His eyes must have been almost closed shut from the swelling. It would be hard to even identify Him because of the beatings on His Face.

Isaiah 52:14
Just as many were astonished at you, so
His visage was marred more than any man, and
His form more than the sons of men;

Isaiah 53:2
For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
and as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him,
there is no beauty that we should desire Him .

Isaiah the prophet wrote hundreds of years before Jesus was to be crucified and saw the Face of Jesus. The Face of Jesus was more marred than any man. Oh how I can only weep!

But wait! The death of Jesus on the cross was not the end. On the third day He arose and then after appearing to His disciples many times He ascended up into Heaven. Now consider this!

I John 3:2
Beloved, now we are children of God;
and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be,
but we know that when He is revealed,
we shall be like Him,
for we shall see Him as He is.

2 Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 4:6-7
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness,
who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

Revelation 22:3-4
And there shall be no more curse,
but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it,
and His servants shall serve Him.
They shall see His face,
and His name shall be on their foreheads.

Yes one day the followers of Jesus will see Him Face to Face! I eagerly look forward to that moment that will last for all eternity.

Should you not be ready to meet Jesus and see His Face, then I urge you to repent of your sins and invite Jesus into your heart and life believing in Him and following Him.

God bless you all and remember as followers of Jesus one day you WILL see His Face!
