Share Jesus on the Web
How to Witness on the Internet
From your own home you can be a living powerful witness for Jesus and the Glory of God. Today you can be a worldwide witness and spread the love of God with others.
You can share the love of Jesus in most nations and go right into people's homes and businesses and speak to people in a very personal way.
Jesus said “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every person”. The Internet is a new and free way of providing people with a way to share Jesus around the world.
Once it was true that only a few people traveled the world in evangelism and missions. Now it is possible for anyone with a computer and Internet hookup to share Jesus with others around the world 24 hours a day. Age, finances, gender and color, etc. are no longer limitations to worldwide witness. Today many people have best friends in other cities or nations that they have never personally met. The Internet is becoming what the town square once was, a place to meet and chat.
The need for street witnesses, personal witnessing everywhere, tract distribution, personal talking, radio and television ministry, church ministry and all types of sharing and helping others in a personal way has not changed and never will.
This new and modern way is now open via the Internet. Yet there are many forces seeking for the hearts and minds of people on the Internet. There is evil and there is good. Most of us get unsolicited e-mail every day offering all kinds of things. Almost all of it is ‘Spam’ mail sent out in mass mailings.
Your witness will be different.
Please note the following very important tips:
- Always in the subject line give your first or last name and
put in their name!! I usually put “to Owen from Arthur”
as an example. When a person sees their name they know someone
took the time to personally type it in and they will almost
always read the e-mail.
- When you send e-mail your return e-mail address will automatically
go with the e-mail so do not think that you are anonymous. This
is good as they can respond to you directly.
- I will give a number of suggested e-mail ideas. You can change
them to fit your own style or use them as they are. Select the
one that is most comfortable for you to use or you may use a
different one from time to time.
- I give several links from my own website so that the person
receiving the e-mail can find further information about how
to know Jesus or grow in Him. You may add your own homepage
or other good gospel links. However I suggest a short list and
ones that are to the point.
- You will visit many sites that have a “Guest Book”
to sign. This is a great place to leave a witness. Make your
comment personal. Just one line will do but say something like
“Your dog is sure lovely, or your site is beautiful”.
Then you can write your message and give a website or two. Not
only the person that has the guest book will read it but all
the viewers will also see your message. You can just “copy”
and “paste” your message in taken from the suggested
list below.
- I have been getting about a 10% response to my e-mail witness to totally unknown people around the world. I think that is wonderful.
HOW TO “COPY AND PASTE”
- In “Internet Explorer” Hold down the left
mouse click and drag the cursor over the area you want to copy
from the suggested e-mail witness letter below and it will highlight
as you move down. Go to the end of what you want to copy and
stop. You can release the mouse and the text will stay highlighted.
- Click “Edit” at the top left then click “Copy”
from the drop down list. You can now use this over and over
until you do a new “Copy”.
- Now when you click a person's e-mail address you only need
to type in the “Subject line”! Then go to the message
and click “Paste” from the same drop down list and
the message is now in the e-mail and ready to send. Just
click "Send"! and pray for them…. Glory!
- The best idea I think is to open your own e-mail system, the place where you send and receive e-mail. I use “Outlook Express” as an example. Open “New Mail” and put in the subject line ‘e-mail message 1’or some other title you will remember. For the message “copy and paste” a message from one of the letters below. Add your own personal message or homepage or websites. Make the e-mail just as you would like it. Then do not mail it! Instead go to the top left and click “File” from the drop down list click “Save” and it will now go in your “Draft” file. Now all you need to do is just open it at any time, do “copy” from the drop down list under “Edit” and now you can surf the web and use that message anytime by just clicking “paste” in an e-mail or in a guest book or on a message board. You can have a list of several different messages saved to be used at different times.
Where can I find e-mail addresses?
There are a huge List of Pen Pal Sites
You can do ‘searches’ for other sites using your favorite search site.
Should you find sites where there are e-mail birthday lists, pen pals sites, etc., you can e-mail me and we may add them to this list!
Important Notes
- When you witness in person you meet all kinds of people.
It is the same on the Internet. Should you get e-mail that you
do not like, just hit the “Delete” tab and move on.
You do not even need to read it.
- You can put a block on any e-mail address that writes to
you so you never have to see their message again. On “Outlook
Express” which I use just “highlight” the e-mail
message title, click “Message” on the tool bar and
then click on “Block sender”. Their message will now
go to the “Deleted” or “trash” automatically
without you ever seeing it.
- I suggest that you do not give out your full name and
address or phone number to people unknown to you. It is fine
if you have already chosen to put it on your homepage but most
people only use an e-mail address.
- My suggestion is that you stay with the subject of JESUS!!
Do not get into other subjects. I just stick with Jesus. You
may feel led to make an exception in certain cases but be careful.
When I witness in bars, nightclubs and other such places I talk
only about Jesus and do not just set around and visit. It closes
the door to many temptations and avoids many problems. I generally
take the same approach most of the time anyway.
- You may want to set up a special e-mail account to use for
witnessing. They are free and easy to sign up for. Some of the
most popular are at Yahoo and Hotmail.
- For more training in ‘How to Witness’ please go
to the “Mercy Street” site at http://www.mercystreet.com/ and enroll in the “Street University”. You can even

- Spread the word about this “How to Witness on the Internet”
site to your friends that ‘Follow Jesus’ and may want
to witness on the Internet. You could send this site to all
your e-mail friends.
- To send this site to others: In “Internet Explorer”
just click ‘mail’ on the links bar at the top. From
the drop down list click either “Send link” or “Send
Page”. Your e-mail will come up and you can just select
the persons to send it to from your own e-mail list. Simple
so do it! Ha!
