Crete

Crete31995

Denise, my wife, and I had a glorious crosswalk on Crete during December and
January. It was wonderful to be there over the New Year. We rented a car and
Denise drove and I carried the cross from one end of the island to the other.

It was wintertime and the weather was cold and rainy. Most of the shops and
hotels were closed, as it was not the tourist season.

Our witness was to the local people. They were quite interested and we prayed
with many to come to Jesus and follow him.

We had some good Greek food in some local homes and experienced afresh
the great hospitality of this land.

One of the most awesome things I have ever seen in the sky took place there.
The clouds were simply breathtaking in their design and color.

Also, I will not forget a dog that was following me. I stopped to take a break and discovered this dog behind me. I played with him a bit then started off. The dog kept following me then running ahead of me. The dog would run out into the traffic. I kept calling to him and trying to make him go away so he would not get hit by passing vehicles. He seemed only to care to go with the cross and me. At last I had to speak hard to him and point back. Oh, his eyes were so sad and tears filled my eyes. I had to make him go away for his own good. He slowly went back along the roadside but would stop and look back at me with sad eyes. I had to just pick up my cross and walk away. I could only pray he made it back home safely.

We carried the cross over a hundred miles on the island of Crete.
