“This is tough, Lord, I almost didn’t make it.
I was struggling, lunging, crawling, falling down cliffs and crawling up mountains. I had to crawl, pushing the cross a foot or two at a time. It was unbelievable. I slipped, slid or fell going down.I crossed nine rivers today. As I walked along the bank of one of them, the bank gave way and I fell into the muddy water.
What a mess! I struggled on. I felt like an ape man, it was simply a battle to survive. I cut vines and brush with my machete until I could hardly hold up the big knife. Vines wrapped around the cross; at times you could not even see the ground. This cross walk is one of the most incredible trips ever undertaken by man. I tell you, I’ve lived!I refuse to die in this jungle. If God wills His power, I will make it.
My heart is so tender, my mind is tough, and my body is in pain. But I am going to make it by God’s grace. The river flows into Colombia. But it is only a small stream here and if you miss it, it is hopeless. There is no other way out of the mangrove swamp. When I got to the river I dropped the cross and fell into the knee-deep water utterly exhausted.
I’m back to civilization; a pig pen by the stream! The ground is wet and swampy but I put some boards across the top of the pen to sleep.I write this by the setting sun. Tonight I will sleep in the “Pig Hilton.” The pigs never slept though. They rooted and grunted and bumped the boards all night. They would even rub their backs on the boards. It was grunt, grunt, grunt, bump, bump, bump all night. This, plus all the sounds of the night and the awful smell.
What a life!”Taken from my diary as I was carrying the cross through the Darien Jungle from Panama to into Colombia 1979, February 15th.
I have learned that one can see themself in a pig pen or feel that it is a fine hotel. It’s all about how you view your life and condition. Often people are shouting and cursing me and the cross. I smile and call back “God bless you! Jesus loves you”! Why, because I translate what they are saying to them praising the Lord!!! I don’t receive the bad into my spirit. I often say ‘when criticism and praise affect you the same you are beginning to get free.” Don’t let others take away what God has given you.
You can live in the joy of the Lord! Amen.“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness (self control) be known to all. The Lord is at hand. Be have no anxiety over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving made known to God; And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise think on these things.” Philippians 4:4-8.
I have carried a 12 foot cross around the world in every nation and major island group on earth on every continent. I have found Jesus to always be with me no matter what the condition. Now at the age of 81 I look back and glory in the Lord Jesus. Peace and Joy is not found in the world but in Jesus Christ and seeking to follow Him in all things.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” “But he who glories, let him glory in the Lord” “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
Oh, come to Jesus now and let Him cleanse your mind and spirit and set you free. He can give you a new heart and life. Should you not be a born again Christian call on Jesus and ask him to give you a new heart and life in Him. Repent and put your faith in Jesus and God will give you as a free gift…salvation through what Jesus did in shedding His Holy Sinless Blood on the Cross for you and I. Those of you who are saved and followers of Jesus it is time to start walking in the Spirit and having the fruit of the Spirit fill your life.
I would encourage you right now to say aloud “In Jesus Christ I am Free!”Glory. You can type that in this comment section. That may encourage you and others that see it to join in this mighty confession.
Every difficulty is either a stumbling block or a stepping stone!
The Way of the Cross leads Home!!! Glory.
Rejoice! Pilgrim followers of Jesus, Arthur and Denise Blessitt.
