'Best' Shoes ' - Mephisto I am now wearing this great hiking boot for my crosswalks around the world. Water proof, wide fitting, strong but lightweight and durable! Most of all comfortable after a long walk. Tough but soft soles. This French company makes fine quality products. This could well be the best shoe in the world and also very, very expensive.

'Best' Map - Michelin - the best. When you are in the Sahara and you must make a road or trail choice this is critical to survival, this is the only map to trust. Very accurate road and trail conditions. But it is important to check how up to date it is, you must look for the small print on the side that gives the © copyright date. Some stores keep old ones that are not updated but for the traveler it is extremely important, especially in Third World countries, to have the latest edition as indicated by the copyright date. Expensive but worth the price in accuracy.

'Best' Sunglasses - Gargoyles - Good wrap around protection for the eyes from all damaging sun rays. Durable which is what you need when you are where you can't replace broken sunglasses. And they do stand by their guarantee. Looks very nice. Almost unbreakable and will not shatter if rock hits lens.

'T-Force' I find that these are the 'best' for sun glare!

'Best' Hat - Sequel - I wear the desert rat. It has a front bib and sides that are detachable. The sides hang down and can wrap around the neck. 'The French Foreign Legion Look' Ha! 'Best' Pen - Fisher Pressurized roller ball. Created for use in space travel. Just the best for writing upside down! Ha! Underwater, or in odd positions in a tent or bed. Can be ordered from 'TravelSmith' (see below) or Magellan's.

'Best' Waterproofing - Nikwax - for leather and fabric to improve water repellency.

I can take twice or three times the amount of clothes in the same space required for 'normal' clothes. I get most of my road clothes here. A few tips from the supply stores:

Mag - flash light - with carrying holder. Great light, tough, has extra bulb.

Shade - sun screen -I use 45, it is non-irritating. Wash it off after leaving sun and put on pure Vitamin E lotion on my face, hand, and arms.

Sony 1CF-SW22 small radio with real dial for short wave, AM and FM. Small, lightweight and great reception.

'Best' It is best to go in your travels, walking, and living with God. I have walked around this earth and have always known Jesus was with me, always. In the rain, cold, heat, war, jail, pleasure, beauty, danger, joy, the presence of God is constant, unchanging, and beautiful. I totally recommend that you invite Jesus who lived without sin, loved and helped others. But was crucified for our sins on the cross, rose again on the 3rd day and then ascended to heaven to come into your life. Begin following Jesus, love God and love, care for and help other people. In spite of all the pain, injustice and suffering in this world let the beauty of God be shown in you to others. Let us care for each other, lift up not destroy, forgive and have no vengeance. Be at peace not causing conflict. End war and welcome all. Let us be at peace and live in harmony with nature and each other. Smile and reach out your hand to care, find someone, (everyone) to love.
